All those we have loved...
This page is basically chronological, I didn't realise how many dogs had been part of our family until I started this collection - some dates overlap, like my mind! Please excuse....
There are a couple of photos I've mislaid Meg and Sammy the crossbreeds. And photos we never took, of Silver the Wire Fox Terrier, Sindy and her son Sandy the Lakeland Terriers; and Scooby Doo Cindy's crossbred son.
My father enjoyed showing and breeding terriers and some of my earliest memories are of sitting on a show bench cuddling big dogs or watching my father 'hand strip' a terrier before a show. One special memory is of visiting my 'uncle' Les Atkinson to see 'the cup' when he had handled the Best In Show winner at Crufts in 1963.
When I was almost a teenager we moved house to live near the local dog training club, where I pestered my dad to let me take his prize winning Lakeland Terrier for obedience classes ! We did ok but I saw border collies doing much better !! I aquired a brown and white working sheepdog whom I called Coco, he stayed my constant companion until I went to university, unfortunately whilst I was away he left us to go 'over the rainbow bridge'.
After I graduated I owned my first border collie, Taffy before registration for the breed conformation ring. It wasn't until I was living in my own home with my husband to be that I got my first 'dual registered' border collie 'Magic', who went on win two chalenge certificates with best of breed.
The rest of the story can be found via the history page.
1960's
Mr Les Atkinson (Saredon) with the Crufts Best In Show Winner 1963 the Lakeland Terrier Rogerholm Recruit owned by Mr W Rogers handled by Les. My dad helped to prepare the dog and afterwards I remember going to see 'the cup' at 'uncle Les's kennels. (My dad is not in the photo which is © Hartley Campbell courtesy of the kennel club)
Judy, Les's daughter still shows and has also won the 1998 Best In Show at Crufts with a homebred dog the Welsh Terrier Ch Saredon Forever Young owned by Mr David Scawthern & Mrs Judy Averis (photo © Marc Henrie courtesy the kennel club)
1970's
Coco Bean, yes that was his name, becaus when he was tiny he was the colour of Cocoa powder, and Japh my very first border collie- farm bred and nutty as a fruit cake. Unfortunately my dad was very ill and had to have most of his stomach removed, and being a very boisterous dog he was rehomed to a small- holding (farm) in Staffs .
Coco and I enjoyed obedience training and we did win a few trophies together shown left (ok so they were for the highest placed junior handler at our local club show but we did win them fair and square! ) Coco stayed at home when I went off to College to do my degree, sadly he wasn't with us after a year or so away from home, neither was my dad, who died when I was in my third year at college.
One of the last photos of Coco with my Gran, the two oldies together taken around 1979
The mystery dog!
Whilst trawling through photos recently I found this young mottled 'collie' type. If I remember correctly he was called 'Scooby Doo' - yes after the cartoon dog, a product of our terrier Silver's liaison with an unknown suitor. I can't be sure where he went to, I only know I got Japh a little later.
1980's
Taffy, Alsager Taffiad, aquired when I left college ( I went to Alsager College of Higher Education - now part of the University of Manchester - hence his name.) I used the money my mum left me to look after the house whilst she and my younger brother were visiting my elder brother in South Africa! Taffy was very intelligent, and although capable of being obedient and agile we did not set the world on fire! No trophies were won with him. He retired gracefully and moved with me to my own home.
Taffy was joined by Holly, aka Cashmore Gifted and Black,
the Sheltland Sheepdog whom I aquired from my future mother in law Anita (although at the time we didn't know this!) Holly >
Lady came to me after winning BP In Show at Warrington CS, shown here aged 9 months then owned and handled by my elder brother Alan. He and his family decided to emigrate to South Africa and so Lady was with me until we found a new home for her.

Registered Border Collie ...
Magic was from one of Sh Ch Viber Travelling Matt to Corinlea's first litters, bred by Peter and Mary Collier out of their lovely prick eared Mizanne the Cider at Morenmar (full sister to Caroline Ward's Perry - Mizanne the Pernod) and the spitting image of her father Whenway Rhys of Mizanne. When I booked a bitch puppy Trav had 1CC, shortly after she came home he was made up to Show Champion. Originally I had ontacted contacted Karen (Dalglish) about Trav's litter to Corinlea Rona, but discovering they were all sold, Karen told me about Peter and Mary's litter and when I was told about how the mother was bred I jumped at the chance as I admired the Mizanne Border Collies. Karen had the 'pick' of the bitches, and I was told later that she couldn't decide between my Magic and one of the other bitches (they were very alike) but I was very happy that I was to have my Magic.
I had decided on the name before I even saw her as I was workling on a book with my future husband at the time for a publisher named Merlin, and I liked the name, especially as she was to be my "payment" for all the work I'd helped him with ! As Mary and Peter hadn't a K.C. affix at that time I asked that she was named KOMARGO MAGIC (I came up with Komargo after playing around with our two names - doesn't everyone?) Now they use the Morenmar affix.
She had a total of three litters, two by Skip - aka Show Champion Reakasso Ryan JW. Her frist litter to him produced the Top Brood Bitch 1993 Komargo Ryans Daughter (Lizzie) owned by Jean and Jimmy Entwistle, sho produced Magic's fantastic Show Champion grandson Frazer -aka Beesting Twiglette, who has thrown his show winning ways to his champion children and grandchildren. Her second litter to Skip produced Griff -aka Komargo Highland Magic To Reakasso and he is behind many of the dual registered border collies in the ring today. Sadly we lost Magic at 12 years when she had to be given sleep.
Border Collies Magic, Fay aka Viber Fairground Attraction, and Janey
aka Borderbreeze Black Widow, after a long run. Janey was from one of the first New Zealand litters born in the UK, imported by the late
Mrs Margaret Collier. Fe and Janey were co-owned with Tracy Mills
( Reakasso Border Collies). Sadly both bitches went on to produce CEA so they were rehomed. Janey produced Jilly ( sorry no photos) who was CEA normal and although very beautiful, didnt geet on with my other dogs. She went to live in Wigin with Jean Entwistle.
Robin, bred by Tracy Mills sired by Sh Ch Wizaland Macintosh out of the lovliest of tri-colour bitches Sh Ch Mizanne The Lady Lucinda. His grand-dam was the dual champion Ob Ch/Sh Ch Whenway Mist of Wizaland. Robin was mated to Magic for her last litter and he produced Komargo Robbie's Glen who was destined for the Obedience circuit with Joan Judge.
About 6 months after Magic came to home we had a new arrival in the form of our first Belgian Shepherd - the Groenendael Cleo. She was as they say brd in the purple, with Champion Woodlyn Pandora for her mother and Champion Leircote Brecht for her father. She grew on to be a topsize bitch so never won any great prizes, but she did
win her stud book number by winning Post Graduate and Limit Bitch at LKA the same year. In this photo is Nicky aka Viber Incantation at Komargo, he never made it into the show ring, as he was pet homed due to family illness. Here is a picture of mother in law Anita with three Belgian shepherd types, Suna the Malinois, our Cleo the Groenendael and Neka the Tervueren.
Into the 1990's
Beesting Just William, aka Billy was probably from Komargo Ryan's Daughter's last litter, to her grand-sire Sh Ch Viber Travelling Matt to Corinlea. He had such promise as a tiny puppy,
he was the most handsome dog I'd ever seen, perfectly marked, lovely temperament but he was diagnosed with a hole in his heart when he went for his innoculations, as he got older he started to collapse after excercise and needed a sedentary life, so he went to live with my cousin and her family where he lived a happy and long life despite his illness.
Kim also known as Tia's Ebony Keepsake was bred by my father in law, her mother was Beesting Tia from Komargo - litter sister to Show Champion Beesting Twiglette, and her father Sh Ch Reakasso Ryan, who she took after in both looks and temperament. She was a very much loved collie, especially as I was there when she was born and knew she was to come home with me. We did lots of different activities together, she was awarded the Midlands Border Collie Club's Silver Utility Certificate, after passing tests in 9/10 activities, the only thing we didnt do together was herd sheep so
she couldn't achiev gold!!! She won her Kennel Club stud book number and had one litter of one puppy, Meg, who was sired by Altricia Blue Diamond,
a most beautiful blue/white merle. Meg shown right was a double of her mother. Meg went to live with Maxine and Arthur Burdus and was mated to Tamarsh Chicago Bear, she produced Komargo Bear'ly Magic who stayed with Maxine and went on to win Best Puppy in Breed at Crufts, and our Komargo Blue Peter aka Peter. Peter loved the swingball in the garden and would play for hours in the garden with Kim. He also enjoyed Doggie Detrectives, whereby my daughter would hide the 'kong' somewhere in the garden and he and Kim would search for it. Happy days.
Peter grew to be over top size for a male border collie and went to live with Glynis, a family friend who changed his name to Aztec ( she is mad) Aztec died tragically early 2007 after suffering from blood poisening. He is seen in this picture with Kim and our latest collie addition to our family Arnold, who you will find out about by going to the border collie pages.
2000 to date
Here we are nearly up to date 6 months after Arnold came home, we got Rubin, the Belgian Shepherd Malinois aka Gwashleas Roman Warrior, they are now nearly 7 years old. You can find out more about him on the Malinois pages.
Here come the schipperkes !!!!!

Molly aka Avidore Dancing Queen for Komargo RCC
We never planned to
have a Schipperke at Komargo, owning pastoral breeds we were considering
buying in small dog, a Westie or a Valhund, for my mother in law Anita and
daughter Alex to show. Then came the fateful day when Alex came home and
said "Mrs Forknall" (her Deputy headteacher at school and a family
friend from way back) "has puppies at home" ...
We knew Diane had bred Westies in the past, and instructed Alex to find
out about them.... Diane had Schipperke puppies not Westies , and apparently
Alex had told Di all about how she and her Gran were looking for a small
dog to show and Di said she wanted a show home for a bitch puppy she had...
... a chat in the playground next day and a telephone conversation that
evening saw us visiting the Avidore household to see the little balck devils.
We were immediately taken by their character, and noticed how similar to
our Belgian Shepherd dogs they were, and decided that, yes, we would like
to have 'Grace' as they called her but she would have to have another name
as our youngest family member was called Grace.... straight away I said
her name should be Molly as we once had black tropical fish at one time
- black mollies!! She was going to live with Anita and shortly after she
had her final innoculation we took her home.
Anita trained
Molly for the breed conformation ring, and attended our local ringcraft
training society. Anita enjoyed showing her in local open shows travelling
further affield to the Championship shows around the country. Molly was
often in competition with her litter sisters which resulted in them often
exchanging places with each other. But Anita's confidence grew with her
and she took first place at Birmingham Championship show in a good sized
class. Unfortunately this was the last time Anita showed Molly, as she died
suddenly..... it was decided that
Molly would stay with Robin, my father in law, for the time being, as she
was a dear reminder of Anita, and I would take over the showing of her. Having
been used to showing bigger dogs, I needed table top training.
Molly was brilliant
and helped me through it, and with the support of friends and fellow schipp
fanciers I was quickly accepted as Molly's 'new' handler. We continued our successes,
including a 2nd at CRUFTS which we are very proud of (my first time handling
my own dog there) and then onto the Junior classes, and in our very last one
we won the Post Graduate class and a Res CC.
Molly
was mated to Ch Franhowil Black Minstrel
at Aradet.
Her puppies were born on Monday 13th January 2003, 5 days earlier than the
due date. She had 7 puppies - which I believe is a big litter for a Schipperke,
2 dogs and 5 bitches. Sadly the second born ( a dog puppy) never woke up,
then his brother died the next day. So Molly reared the five girls. Two were kept, Rhona and Xsara, aka Komargo Appasionato for Avidore and Komargo Amorosofor Avidore, the others were found loving homes. Rhona still lives and is shown by Diane Forknall, Xsara is with me, you can find her on the Schipperke pages. Molly was retired in a lovely home in London and Norfolk.

Emily aka Avidore Elegant Dame for Komargo
It was decided that we would like another Schipperke and Diane said we could have a bitch from her next litter. Enter Emil
y aka Avidore Elegant Dame at Komargo, out of Champion Avidore Brazen Hussy by Ch Nocte Boris Karloff, co-owned with Diane Forknall. We saw Emily at about a week old, then weekly uintil she came to live with us after her jabs. She did very well in the show ring, winning Limit bitch at Leeds Champ show. However Emily had a fiery temperment and did not get on with our other dogs, in particularXsara. We decided it would be best to rehome one of the girls and given the choice I chose to keep Xsara. Emily went to live in a lovely home in Coventry as a retired lady's companion and is very happy.
So we are up to date and you can meet our present Schipperkes and our collie and malinois on their respective pages.
